Travel photo of the week – Big Lake, AZ

January 14, 2011
by budgettravelsac

It’s been a long time since I’ve done the travel photo of the week.  However, I’ve been inspired lately and want to share a guest photo for this week to inspire people as they are suffering through cold, rain, and snow.

This week’s photo comes to us from Jessalyn Pinneo – Big Lake, Arizona.

This photo was taken at Big Lake, Arizona, USA (no really, that’s what it’s called!), in the northeastern part of the state. I like that it encompasses so many things that I love about fall: the sky is blue, not yet the gray of winter; the sun is shining, bright enough to sparkle off the surface of the lake and strong enough to burn some of the chill out of the air without the blinding heat of summer; the aspen leaves are going to flame and rustling as the fall breeze blows through them. It’s a moment of comfort and beauty, captured in a frame.

Read more about Jessica on her blog at Diary of a Wandering Student where she seeks to explore the human aspect that makes travel so wonderfully unpredictable, delving into the cultures of the places I travel and the people who embody them.

This place looks gorgeous! Arizona is a state that I live very close to and hope to explore very soon.

I live very close as well! :) I’ve been to Phoenix, Flagstaff, and the Grand Canyon but there is so much more to see there! It’s a beautiful lake!

    Thanks for posting this, Jeremy!

Arizona always surprises me with how much it changes in just an hour or two on the road. My parents live in the mountains southwest of Big Lake and driving to their house from the airport you go from baking heat and Saguaro cacti everywhere to temperatures that can be 30 degrees cooler and forests filled with Ponderosa and Juniper. Lots to see here, that’s for sure!

Thanks for the photo Jessalyn! My wife went to school in northern Arizona, Flagstaff, so she knows the area well!

Beautiful photo! I didn’t realize Arizona looked like that, I’d always pictured more of a desert..

Oh there are a lot of desert features and mountains there too. Don’t be fooled though – there isn’t a lot of water there. Don’t expect beaches! :) However, don’t forget the Colorado River which flows through the Grand Canyon!

Looks awesome. Quite spellbinding. I would love to spend some time exploring the area.
