Travel Tuesday question of the week – what is your favorite Fall destination?

I admit that Fall is my favorite time of year to travel.  Whether it’s traveling internationally or just close to home, I love the weather, the cooler temperatures, the smaller crowds, and the cheap travel.  With Fall arriving today, what is your favorite Fall destination?

For me, I have two favorites locally.  One is Apple Hill.  It’s a group of apple orchards and farms about 40 minutes from my house where people come to pick their own apples, enjoy arts and crafts, eat and drink, and just enjoy being outside.  On the way to Tahoe, it has a little bit of an Alpine feel.  Located close to the Sierras, it’s the epitome of Fall.

My other destination would be Tahoe itself.  Every year, I go up to Tahoe with my family to stay at the cabin, enjoy the peace and quiet of nature, and just enjoy the cool weather.  I don’t know how to describe the peace that comes over me or why I enjoy that area so much.  You won’t find me in Tahoe at all in the winter and not much during the summer.  However, the Fall is the perfect time for me.  Unfortunately, there won’t be a trip this year because bears have been breaking into cabins in Tahoe (see what the bear did to our family cabin).

As for other destinations, Europe in the Fall is beautiful and it’s a perfect time to go.  Traveling locally to see the changing of the leaves and being in nature is another great event.  No matter where you go in the Fall, it’s always a perfect destination to me.

I enjoy anywhere around Ohio, really, in the fall. The weather is usually great, and I love to see the leaves changing.

Fall makes me think of high school football games, marching bands, hooded sweatshirts, and crunchy leaves. Ahhh, this is my favorite time of year!

For me, I grew up in the South and Fall reminds me of the colors, cooler weather, and football as well. However, college football was my thing. Love everything about the Fall – I even got married in the Fall! :)

I say Thailand!! This is my answer for all favorite destination whether it suits it or not. LMAO
I never really understood the fall season until I lived in America. In Australia really there is no such season- I just had to stop and think for a few minutes exactly what time of the year it is. :)
But I would have to say after living in the US, I really love Fall. For me it is a season of fun. After the humid heat of NC, I like how it starts to cool off (although wished it wouldn’t plummet to freezing temperatures), but I really love all the action that is going on. From Halloween to college football tailgating parties (yes I became a die hard fan) to christmas celebrations and the flaming golden colors of the earth. I also love pumpkin pie washed down with any number of good locally brewed beers. In fact, I think I am about to cry because I miss it so much and wish I was there right now.
So for me, my favorite fall destination at the moment would be in Raleigh/ Chapel Hill North Carolina with all my friends and cheering on the Tar Heels!

Caz, I totally understand. Now you know why I love the Fall so much. I was born and raised in South Carolina and graduated from USC – the University of South Carolina. I’ve known college football for as long as I can remember so I strongly associate it with the Fall. Not only that, I love the cooler temps, the leaves changing, just the general atmosphere of Fall. Not to mention, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.

Here in California, we get a good taste of Fall with the Sierras close by. I will be going to Apple Hill on Friday and I can’t wait! Unfortunately in California, Fall doesn’t last very long. Goes from summer to winter with only a short amount of time for the Fall. I will enjoy it while it lasts though!

Nice to read that you have the same sentiments as me and we have some of the same associations! :)

We just got back from Ulster County in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York, and the air was clear and cool; woodsy backroads run along wide, stony creeks; deer and butterflies frolic around marshy ponds in soft meadows; lacy trees are touched with mid-September red and gold (the foliage show will last through most of October); and the huge array of apples grown throughout the area are turned into amazing pies, sauces and pancakes.

The Catskills get my vote — but have a wonderful time in Apple Hill!

Thanks Melanie! I’ve been to upstate NY – Cooperstown. It is beautiful up there. I can only imagine what it is like in the Fall!

On the West Coast I love the Central Coast and the Bay Area. On the East Coast I like Rhode Island in the fall, but only before the leaves drop.

Thanks Anis! I’ve just passed through Rhode Island but never stopped. I imagine anywhere in the northeast with some trees is beautiful! As for the west coast, the Bay area and coast are fabulous in the Fall!

The Pacific NW – without a doubt! We love, Love, LOVE fall and wait all year for it. We are the opposite of snow birds, we like to leave home in the summer and head to places like Buenos Aires where it is fall (or at least fall-like) in July and August.

Since we tend to be away from Seattle – our home base – at least 1/3 of the year, we made a pact to NOT travel in October so that we could spend at least some of our favorite season at home.
